Protect Public SafetyProtect Public Safety
Gallatin County is growing fast, and with that growth comes real pressure on law enforcement, emergency response, and the systems that keep our communities safe. Colter Metcalf has spent his career in law enforcement, and he understands firsthand that public safety is not abstract, it is response times, staffing levels, coordination, and preparedness. As Commissioner, he will focus on making sure our county keeps up with growth so families, neighborhoods, and rural communities remain safe and well served.
Colter will
• Support law enforcement, emergency services, and first responders with the resources they need to keep up with growth
• Prioritize response times and coordination across agencies as the county expands
• Ensure public safety planning keeps pace with new development and population increases
• Back practical solutions that strengthen safety without unnecessary bureaucracy
-
Manage Growth ResponsiblyManage Growth Responsibly
Gallatin County is one of the fastest growing areas in Montana. Growth brings opportunity, but without careful planning, it can erode the very character that draws people here. Colter believes growth should be managed in a way that respects property rights, protects rural communities, and maintains the quality of life for long-time residents. The goal is not to stop growth, but to guide it with common sense so infrastructure, housing, and services keep up.
Colter will
• Support smart, predictable land use policies that balance growth with preservation
• Protect rural character and working lands while planning for necessary development
• Ensure infrastructure and services keep pace with population increases
• Approach zoning and housing issues with practical, local solutions, not one size fits all mandates
-
Ensure Transparent, Accountable GovernmentEnsure Transparent, Accountable Government
County government should be easy to understand, responsive to the people, and accountable for the decisions it makes. Too often, residents feel decisions are made without clear communication or input. Colter believes trust in local government starts with transparency and a willingness to listen. As Commissioner, he will work to make sure the public knows what is happening, why decisions are being made, and how to be involved.
Colter will
• Promote clear communication between the county and the public
• Support open, accessible decision making processes
• Ensure taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly and with oversight
• Be available and responsive to the people he represents

Protect Community Character and Land StewardshipProtect Community Character and Land Stewardship
Gallatin County’s land, open spaces, and way of life are worth protecting. As growth continues, it is critical to preserve what makes this area unique, from working lands to outdoor access and natural resources. Colter believes good stewardship means balancing use and preservation so future generations can enjoy the same opportunities we have today.
Colter will
• Support responsible stewardship of public lands and open space
• Protect the balance between development and conservation
• Respect the needs of both rural communities and growing areas
• Keep local values at the center of land use decisions
